ANCHORING DEMOCRACY ADVOCACY MOVEMENT GHANA (ADAM-GH) PROPOSAL FOR ELECTORAL REFORMS IN GHANA.
6th August,2025
TO THE PRESIDENT OF
THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA
HIS EXCELLENCY JOHN
DRAMANI MAHAMA.
CC:
VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA.
RIGHT HON. SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT.
CHAIRMAN OF CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT COMMITTEE.
ADOPT UNITED STATES OF
AMERICA SYSTEM OF WINNING GENERAL ELECTIONS.
As a civil society organization that anchors proper democratic principles, we write to you of our proposal for electoral reforms to adopt the United States of America electoral System of winning general elections by states (Regions).
Our studies shows that a political party in Ghana sometimes wins elections with two or three Regions based on the 50+1 system.
This current electoral system in Ghana has been criticized for perpetuating tribalism and uneven development.
We are calling for constitutional amendment to adopt by the United States of America electoral System where no party can win organization elections with only 3 Regions in r Ghana.
At least a political party must win more than half of the 16 Regions and not 50+1 majority practice currently.
This 50+1 system is always characterized with elections malpractice and corruption couple with bloating figures from one or two Regions.
Our organization thinks that what we should start to do now is to ADVOCATE for the USA ELECTORAL SYSTEM in Ghana.
To address these challenges, we propose a reform that requires political parties to win more than half of the regions to secure .
RATIONALE FOR ELECTORAL REFORMS:
National Representation: By requiring parties to win more than half of the regions at least 8 out of the 16 regions, we ensure that the winning party has broad national support and representation.
Reducing Tribalism: This system can encourage parties to campaign across regions and reduce reliance on tribal or ethnic affiliations.
Promoting Development: Parties will prioritize development in multiple regions rather than focusing on their strongholds to win national support.
THE BENEFITS OF THE NEW ELECTORAL REFORMS:
Increased National Unity: Parties will need to build coalitions and appeal to voters across regions to foster national unity. .
More Inclusive Governance: The winning party will represent diverse interests and regions to ensure more inclusive governance.
Developmental Balance: Regions will receive more balanced attention, promoting development and reducing disparities.
All Regions will get equal development not only to concentrate on densely populated Regions.
We are therefore calling for the ADAPTATION of the US ELECTORAL SYSTEM IN GHANA by amendment of electoral reform.
With this Ghana can promote national representation, reduce tribalism and foster more inclusive governance and development.
This is an appeal to all Stakeholders and every Ghanaian to consider the proposal for the interest of the nation.
Best regards to the nation.
Long live Ghana.
God bless our motherland Ghana.
Signed
………….
