An ardent NPP loyalist, Sandra Ewool, has taken issue with party members who brand the NPP as an “Akan party” and argue that leadership should always remain with Akans. In a lengthy Facebook post, she condemned such ethnic labels as damaging, insisting that they erase the NPP’s national character and its presence in all regions of Ghana. Ewool rejected the idea that the party should be viewed as exclusive to one ethnicity

She challenged those holding this view, saying that if they were consistent, they should shut down the party’s operations in Northern Ghana and surrender the seats won there. She described it as absurd that a candidate who had competently served eight years as vice president is now being opposed purely on ethnic grounds. In her words, it made no sense to deem someone qualified to serve as vice president but unqualified to contest for the presidency.
Reflecting on past internal disputes, Ewool reminded members how similar factional battles once drove many supporters out of the NPP. She blamed this on inflated self-importance and an attitude of walking away when expectations are not met. Concluding her piece, she emphasized that the party has always drawn its strength from unity and national inclusiveness, not tribal identity, and that discarding ethnic politics is the only way for the NPP to remain a truly national powerhouse.
