Chief, 42, commits suicide after catching wife with a Police officer in a hotel.
A chief has committed suicide in Nandi after reportedly finding his wife in the act, in a lodging, with a police officer.
The administrator, Charles Kogei, 42, a chief for Ndurio location in the Aldai sub-county died at a private hospital in Kapsabet on Monday evening.
Nandi County criminal investigation officer Douglas Chikanda confirmed the incident.
“It is a saddening case of suicide. We have indeed lost the chief. It is a case of a love triangle involving one of my officers and the chief’s wife. Preliminary probe indicates that the incident led to chief to take his life,” Chikanda said.
The police officer is attached to the Kobujoi police station.
Nandi South OCPD Peter Mbua also confirmed the incident and said they are investigating the matter.
A family member told the Star that he took a glass of pesticide, said to be “Round up”, to take his life after finding his wife, a mother of 4, in a lodging in Serem Town.”
“After the discovery, he drove to his home picked the pesticide and drank.”
“We rushed him to hospital but died as he was receiving treatment at White Crescent Nursing Home,” the family member said.
A junior police officer, who sought anonymity, confirmed that the officer in question was his colleague.
He said the officer was known to have a relationship with the chief’s wife.
The officer, who accompanied the family to the hospital, said the chief took poison after the incident.
The Star has learnt the officer caught in the act has been sent on compulsory leave pending a probe into the matter.
The chief’s body is preserved at White Crescent Hospital awaiting postmortem.
