Digitization: The Key to Unlocking Mahama’s ‘Reset Ghana’ Agenda, Says CPP Organizer.

As the global economy increasingly revolves around digital systems, prioritizing digitization is crucial for realizing President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to ‘Reset Ghana’ and transform the nation’s economy.

This is according to Mr. Evans Kyei, the Eastern Regional Organizer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

In an exclusive interview with the correspondent, Mr. Kyei voiced his concern that despite being 68 years independent, Ghana’s economy has struggled to progress due to a lack of policies that foster significant advancement.

He highlighted the pioneering efforts of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who laid the foundation for development through digitization.

However, following Nkrumah’s overthrow, these policies, responsible for landmark achievements like the Akosombo Dam, universities, and textile industries, have not been adequately built upon, leading to stalled development.

Mr. Kyei, also an Information Technology expert and Managing Director of Multiminds Technologies Co Ltd in Kumasi, emphasized that the economic success of developed nations is rooted in their embrace of technology. He asserted that Ghana must follow suit to realize President Mahama’s ambitious “Reset Ghana” agenda.

A Call for Strategic Digitization

To effectively implement this digitization plan within the framework of the “Reset Ghana” agenda, Mr. Kyei proposed a strategic partnership between the government and private ICT organizations and individuals. He believes their expertise is vital for advising on how effective digitization can positively impact the Ghanaian economy.

Furthermore, he advocated for the introduction of compulsory ICT subjects in all public and private schools, from primary to university levels. Drawing parallels with China’s development trajectory, Kyei pointed out that China’s success stems from training citizens in technology from a young age, resulting in a highly skilled workforce by the time they reach secondary school.

“Today, no country can see development without the introduction of effective ICT practices in its economy,” Kyei asserted. He added that Ghana can leverage technology to attract wealth and transform its economy if digitization is prioritized.

Echoing the Sentiment: ICT Professionals Advocate for Technology-Driven Growth

Supporting Mr. Kyei’s claims, Mr. Kyeremeh Yeboah, a Kumasi-based ICT professional and Chief Executive Officer of ICL Computer Systems Ltd, noted that Ghana’s economy can be significantly improved by prioritizing technology and encouraging students to embrace it.

Mr. Yeboah believes that Ghana possesses immense potential to unlock and transform its economy. However, inaction has hindered progress. He expressed hope that the government’s “Reset” policy will prioritize digitization to ensure meaningful economic transformation, finally allowing Ghana to harness the power of technology for sustainable growth.
