The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana has urged Ghanaians to disregard the proposed transport fare increment slated to take off in August 8, 2025. the Acting National Chairman of the transport union Asonaba Nana Wiredu has admonished.
According to Nana Wiredu the said fare increase proposal emanated from the office of. Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council which in his view has no authority to increase transport fares in the country.
In a press release signed jointly by Nana Wiredu representative of the Commercial Transport Operators and Mr Yaw Barima Chairman of the True Transport Union today August 8 respectively the two unions indicated that the fare increase proposal highlighted by the Transport Council has no official backing from the government.
And therefore it sounds unlawful for the Transport Unions to allow passengers to to pay transport fares that have no proper endorsement from the government.
As law abiding transport unions we are ready to agree on any fare increase from the relevant athourities Nana Wiredu and Yaw Barima pointed out.
Public advise:
The release advised commuters to continue to pay for the existing fares until further notice.
The release further urged commuters to report any unauthorized fare increases to the authorities
for attention.
