DON’T KILL FREE SHS- Education – Director to Students
The Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Juliana Essel Cudjoe has advised the free Senior High School students in the country to guard against the excessive use of rioting, demonstrations and attacks in addressing their grivances when they face challenges during the cause of their studies.
Instead she exhorted them to pass their problems through the proper channels for solutions to help sustain the free SHS policy.
According to her, the rate at which section of schools resort to indiscipline behavioral approaches for example, not heeding to school rules and regulations are adversely having negative impact on the free SHS policy.
Destruction of school properties at the expense of the state through demonstrations, Mrs Cudjoe reiterated is not the best.
Mrs Juliana Cudjoe gave the advise during a send-off farewell ceremony organised for Mr Francis P. Yata the outgoing headmaster for Nkawie Senior High Technical School (NSTS) in the Ashanti region.
She described as unfortunate and disturbing the situation where students today have been resorting to use unlawful demonstrations, attacking themselves destroying government properties and even going beyond to launch assaults on their headmasters and mistresses, noting that such conduct calls for attention to enhance discipline in schools.
She noted that the bad attitudes that have been penetrated into the fabrics of the free SHS and creating disquiet in the education sector, if it is not checked would negatively affect not only the education sector but also the students who will learn to become the future leaders of the country.
Counting on such incidents, Mrs Cudjoe pointed out about the recent Kumasi Technical School (KTI) 700 students who were sacked from the institute due to their indiscipline output in the school.
Commenting on the use of addictive drugs, the Director believed that it is a contributing factor in the country.
She noted that some students allegedly smokes marijuana, hard liquor, cigarette among others to misbehave to the point of demonstrating to destroy government properties at schools.
She advised students to concentrate on their books since “education is a key to a successful life”.
