GAMA/GKMA Projects Extension

Following the recent information from the Coordinator of the GAMA/GKMA Sanitation and Water Projects, Ing. George Asiedu at Oyerepa FM in Kumasi that the sector have extended its coverage to other districts in the Ashanti Region, some chiefs have applauded government for the move.

Such chiefs are Denansehene Nana Atonsa Yiadom II in the Afigya Kwabre South District.

The chief also doubles as the Asantehene’s Atenehene , and Nana Kofi Awiah III chief of Soko a town in the Afigya Kwabre North District of Ashanti Region respectively.

In an exclusive separate interviews with the Correspondent, Otumfuo Atenehene Nana Atonsa Yiadom II expressed his gratitude to the government for extending the sanitation projects to other districts in the Ashanti Region.

He observed that the move would help the selected districts to solve cases where people haphazardly use schools and streets as a refuse points to break environmental and sanitations laws.

He said the traditional authorities believe in clean environment, since cleanliness is next to godliness, and therefore he fully rallies behind government to achieve the aim.

He indicated that our forefathers lived longer and healthy, because they took sanitation and environmental issues as their priority in their daily activities.

He commended the World Bank been the major financiers of the households toilet projects and His Excellency, President Nana Akuffo Addo Danquah, over the laudable policy to help curb unwanted diseases in the country,

He passionately appealed to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources been the project implementers to extend the deal to other parts of the country to benefit all.

Nana Atonsa Yiadom II was hopeful that the beneficiary districts would cooperate with the staff of GAMA/GKMA to archieve their goals.

On his part , Nana Kofi Awiah III, chief of Soko expressed joy for the project extension been funded by the Word Bank, indicating that the project would not only help government to cut down the huge sums of monies it uses to import drugs on health issues.

But it would also help communities to become abreast with how and the need to keep proper environment for the benefit of the country.

Meanwhile, commenting on the project extension, the Project Coordinator, Ing George Asiedu was happy to President Nana Akuffo Addo, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecelia Ama Dapaah and the World Bank of whose collaborative efforts Ghanaians have easy access to enjoy bio digester facilities in their homes.

Ing. George Asiedu, Coordinator for the project has earlier announced on air in Kumasi that the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and Parliament have approved the the extension of the households toilet projects to other districts in the Ashanti Region.

He mentioned places like Abuakwa ( Atwima Nwabiagya South District), Afigya Kwabre South and North Districts, Bekwai (Bekwai Municipality) and urged interested residents to register at their respective Assemblies for the GAMA/GKMA bio-digester toilet facilities.

According to him,under the Sustainable Development Goal ( SGG 6 ) agenda, it is aimed at ensuring universal access to safe and affordable drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, and especially ending open defecation.

And this is the agenda which the government of Ghana has directed the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, through World Bank funding to spearhead for Ghanaians by the year 2024, Ing George Asiedu hinted,

Stressing that the project will ultimately provide over 45,000 bio digester toilet facilities for Ghanaians.
