In a Facebook post made on Friday October 16, Ablakwa said the funds, equivalent to about GH¢3 million, had been transferred directly to the accounts of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), which will administer the support to affected victims.

He explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) had agreed to select ADRA as an independent implementing partner to oversee the distribution of the relief package.

According to the minister, the arrangement is intended to ensure that the assistance reaches beneficiaries through an independent process, with the government excluded from selecting individuals who will benefit.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of Ghana’s National Consultative Committee on Regional Integration (NCCRI), an initiative mandated to oversee ECOWAS regional integration programmes and social interventions in the country.

Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the management of the relief funds, saying the process would be guided by integrity.

The donation is intended to support people affected by the June floods as authorities and relief partners work to address the impact of the disaster.

The June 29 floods affected more than 38,000 people across the Greater Accra Region, displaced over 7,700 households and claimed at least 15 lives, renewing concerns over Accra’s perennial flooding problem and prompting fresh calls for stronger flood prevention and urban planning measures.
