In a significant declaration from the Ashanti Region Mr. Wilberforce Osei Tutu, the Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi Old Tafo has boldly endorsed the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most suitable candidate to lead the party to victory in the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Osei Tutu’s endorsement comes amidst a passionate call for delegates to give Dr. Bawumia the mandate in the upcoming national delegates conference.
Popularly known as “King Wilber” within the political circles, Mr. Osei Tutu made a fervent appeal to the delegates to massively vote for Bawumia in the upcoming national delegates conference to become the presidential candidate of the party and struggle for political victory in the next elections.
He expressed his unwavering confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to steer the NPP back to power.
Speaking exclusively to the correspondent, King Wilber underscored that Dr. Bawumia’s distinguished qualities describe him as a matured and seasoned politician whose unique policies can win victory for the NPP in the next elections.
He outrightly dismissed claims attributing the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections solely to Dr. Bawumia.
Instead Wilberforce Osei Tutu conceded that the NPP’s setbacks in 2024 were a collective responsibility citing a glaring deficiencies in the conduct of various party members.
He pointed out how certain Ministers of State, government appointees among others in most cases refused even to pick their phones and respond to crucial calls that border on the party’s development,
ultimately contributing to widespread discontent.
In light of this, King Wilber argued that Dr. Bawumia’s recent apologies to Ghanaians about the mistakes allegedly orchestrated by the NPP regime should be accepted in good faith by the entire NPP family.
He believes that this gesture of humility is crucial for reconciliation and moving forward.
Delving into Dr. Bawumia’s proposed flagship policies Secretary Osei Tutu highlighted the 10 slots of appointments per constituency initiative as particularly impactful.
He observed that this policy could empower Constituency Executives to check appointees who are not performing to be dismissed amidst creating jobs for the youth in the Constituencies without party considerations, a move he believes will foster accountability and grassroots development.
King Wilber further provided a historical perspective to bolster his argument for Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.
He entreated supporters of the NPP to note that historically Npp flagbearers never win presidential elections in their first terms citing the examples of former President John Agyekum Kufuor who lost his first presidential bid in 1996 before securing victory in 2000, and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo who similarly faced initial defeats before becoming president.
Declaring that since Bawumia was also defeated in 2024 it is likely that he would win the 2028 elections according to the custom of the Npp, Osei Tutu asserted, positioning that Dr. Bawumia’s past electoral outcome was a positive omen for future success.
On a cautionary note, Osei Tutu advised NPP supporters to keep internal party issues in secret to avoid their opponents using the NPP’s own dirty language to campaign them in future elections.
Osri emphasized the critical need for party unity and discretion as they prepare for the next electoral cycle.
Mr. Wilberforce Osei Tutu’s bold endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia signals a clear direction from the Kumasi Old Tafo Constituency, urging delegates across the nation to rally behind the former Vice President to ensure the NPP’s return to power in 2028.
