MEF Chairman Calls for Political Discipline, Cites Concerns Over Misconduct.
By King Amoah.
Alhaji Musa Abubakari, Chairman of the Muslims Executive Foundation (MEF), has voiced his strong disapproval of the behavior of some politicians in Ghana, emphasizing the need for greater discipline and responsibility in their public conduct.
Abubakari, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Basfam Company Ltd in Kumasi Ashanti region, believes that the actions and pronouncements of these individuals are detrimental to the nation’s image both domestically and internationally.
In an exclusive interview, Alhaji Abubakari lamented the decline in common sense and decorum among some politicians, arguing that their behavior sets a poor example for the youth.
“As politicians and elderly people of the country, common sense needs to be a hallmark of them so that the youth could learn from them to become responsible future leaders,” he stated.
He expressed concern that the current trend of “wayward” conduct undermines the potential for young people to develop into responsible citizens.
Abubakari specifically referenced a recent parliamentary debate where allegations of money laundering involving foreigners and Ghanaians were made, leading to a controversial and ultimately unsuccessful attempt to arrest the Member of Parliament (MP) who made the claims.
He described the incident as “unfortunate,” questioning how a person holding such a position could fabricate information to such an extent, thereby disgracing the country.
“It is in this direction I am prompted to advise our leaders to be disciplined and guided by the truth to move the country forward,Abubakari emphasized.
He believes that upholding truthfulness and exhibiting discipline are essential for the progress of Ghana.
Furthermore, Alhaji Abubakari criticized the National Security Protocol for what he perceives as their failure to arrest the MP in question. He argued that such actions warrant arrest and prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to spread unsubstantiated and potentially damaging information.
“The MP deserves arrest and prosecution to serve as a deterrent for others,” he stated. He also advised security agencies to be vigilant and proactive in addressing individuals whose lifestyles raise suspicion within the country.
In conclusion, Alhaji Musa Abubakari implores leaders to prioritize good behavior, believing that exemplary conduct will inspire the youth to cultivate the qualities necessary to become responsible future leaders of Ghana.
He calls for greater discipline, adherence to truth, and accountability within the political landscape, urging security agencies to act decisively against those who threaten the nation’s reputation and stability. His message underscores the importance of ethical conduct and responsible leadership in shaping a positive future for Ghana.
