No One Has Banned Traditional Activities In The Aowin Traditional Area- Chiefs To Residents.
Members of the Aowin Traditional Council in the Western-North region have disclosed that the Council has not placed ban on any traditional activities including farming in the area, following the death of the queenmother as some faceless residents have been going rounds to peddle falsehood.
At a press briefing here the Acting President of the Council, Nana Kojo Sikantia II reiterated that under the custom, a one and a half months notice has been given to the residents as a period of preparation to ensure giving a befitting burial rites for the late queen mother.
Such period, the Acting President of the Aowin Traditional Council said takes effect from February 24th to April 14th, 2024, and it hardly linked to any ban on traditional activities including farming.
The Council says its decision was purely custom which does not give them ( Council members) the mandate to place embargo on traditional activities within the Traditional Area.
Nana Kojo Sikantia II on this note advised the residents and for that matter, the general public to treat with contempt, those individuals who have been going rounds to peddle that falsehood in the name of the Council.
Nana Kojo Sikantia II said the Traditional Council is the highest decision-making body for chieftaincy matters in the area, and there is no where the Council has met to ban traditional activities including farming
Commenting on the farming activities that was included in the false baning directives, Nana Sikantia II posited that the allegations levelled against the Council was not true.
As we believe, baning traditional activities including farming by linking funeral issues are untraditional that goes against the Ghana Cocobod’s policy with regards to cocoa production especially in the areas of farm maintenance on pruning exercise, application of liquid fertilizers to increase the yield of cocoa beans among others.
Nana Kojo Sikantia II said whilst the Council members are not ready to take any decisions that could jeopardize and eventually oppose to the good policies of the government on farming, they also advise those resorting to blackmailing attitudes to approach the Council for tutorial to understand custom, and what is meant by ban on traditional activities.
We therefore, entreat everyone to go on with their customary duties without fear, and instead disregard the false information about the one and a half months restrictions order purported to be announced by the Aowin Traditional Council on social activities including farming, the Acting President concluded.
