Oti Regional Bursars And Matrons Of SHS Threaten Showdown Against GES Director….over low feeding cost.
The idea in which the government introduced the Free education policy was laudable, current issues surrounding to its success remains mystery.
This follows a public outcry that relates to the underfeeding of students among other malpractices allegedly carried out by some headmasters in the institutions.
Typically among one of the regions which have come into the limelight of alleged underfeeding of students is the Oti Region, where the domestic bursars and matrons have allegedly raised the red flag, calling on the Regional Director of the Ghana Educational Service, Nana Kugbeadzor Bakateyi II to consider increasing the weekly marketing amount the Service gives to them to ensure smooth operations.
The Association in their letter dated August 22 , 2023 to the Regional Director, indicated that as a result of the low amount of money given to them on weekly basis, the matrons have been unable to provide quality meals to feed the students as required.
Since August 22 that we handed over our grievances letter to the Oti Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service at Jasikan for attention, our letter has since been treated with contempt.
We want to serve the country in line with the good policies put across by the Npp government , and therefore if nothing is heard we will advise ourselves, an angry matron told the correspondent.
According to the matron their probe indicates that as the Oti Regional Senior High School boarding and day students are enjoying a merger 30 pesewas a day per student, other regions like Volta, Central, Northern, Western among others are enjoying ghc 1.50 to ghhc 2.50 pesewas respectively.
We are ready to lay down our tools if the regional director continue to treat us with contempt the matrons told this reporter.
When the correspondent telephoned the Regional Director of Education for her side comments, she refused to comment.
For the avoidance of doubt, we publish below the unedited letter submitted to the director which was allegedly treated with contempt.

Dear Madam,
APPLICATION FOR INCREMENT OF MONEY FOR PERISHABLE (MARKETING)
We the matrons and Domestic bursar’s humbly request for an increment in our weekly marketing.
This is because our weekly marketing money’s are inadequate for purchasing the perishable items. Prices of commodities have increased therefore making it difficult for us to purchase the accurate food items expected of us. Hence the inability to provide nutrious and quality meals.
This is making things so difficult for us since our marketing are based on number of students. It should be calculated as such.
We will therefore be very grateful if some increment will be made.
We hope our humble request will receive your kind considerations.
We are counting on your usual cooperation.
Attached are the names and schools of members of domestic bursars and matrons.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
…………………
