In an exclusive interview, the Principal of Ejuraman Technical Institute, Mr. Bernard Tabi Amponsah, emphasized the need for the government to prioritize technical education to ensure job creation and economic development.
As the head of one of Ghana’s leading technical institutions, Mr. Amponsah has identified the critical role that technical education plays in providing job opportunities and contributing to the nation’s development.
Mr. Amponsah expressed his concerns about the lack of attention given to technical education, which is under the Technical Industrial Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (TIVET) policy.
Despite the potential of technical education to generate instant jobs for students upon graduation, the sector has received insufficient support. To address this issue, Mr. Amponsah urged the government to prioritize the operations of technical education, which would consequently boost the economy.
During the interview, Mr. Amponsah highlighted the challenges faced by Ejuraman Technical Institute, which include the urgent need for a 12-unit classroom block, a 3-story building with 3 stores, boys and girls dormitories, 4 workshops, a sickbay, assembly and dining halls, a 12-seater toilet facility, an administration block, an ICT laboratory, and official vehicles.
He has forwarded these requests to the Ghana Education Service headquarters, the Ejura Traditional Council, and the Ejura Sekyeredumase Municipal Assembly.
Despite these challenges, Mr. Amponsah commended the Ejura Traditional Council for its continuous assistance and support. He also acknowledged the contribution of the United States of America embassy in Ghana towards a recent building infrastructure in the school.
Furthermore, a UK-based Non-governmental Organization, “One Child UK,” has assured the school of its support in putting up structures aimed at uplifting the school.
Mr. Amponsah expressed his hope that the NGO would fulfill its promises before the end of the year.
Mr. Amponsah strongly believes that technical education plays a vital role in the country’s progress. He, therefore, called on parents to enroll their children in technical schools instead of relying solely on secondary education for white-collar jobs.
Technical education offers numerous advantages and prospects that can lead to success in life.
The Principal’s call to action is timely and relevant, as the government seeks to address the high unemployment rate in Ghana. Prioritizing technical education would provide students with the skills and knowledge required to meet the demands of various industries.
By equipping students with practical skills, technical education can help bridge the gap between the workforce and the job market, leading to job creation and economic development.
In conclusion, prioritizing technical education is a crucial step towards ensuring job creation and economic development. The government, private sector, and civil society must collaborate to provide the necessary resources and support to technical institutions. By doing so, Ghana can harness the potential of its youth and create a sustainable and inclusive economy.
