Professor Baffour Agyeman-Duah, a renowned expert in governance and former senior advisor to the United Nations, has unequivocally endorsed President John Mahama’s decision to replace Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP).

According to Prof. Agyeman-Duah, leadership transitions inherently involve changes in key positions, and President Mahama’s decision is well within the bounds of presidential prerogative. “I find nothing wrong with the president changing the police IGP, and even the CDS if he decides to do so it happens,” Prof. Agyeman-Duah asserted in an interview with Joy News on Saturday.

Prof. Agyeman-Duah emphasized that incoming presidents typically appoint top officials who share their vision and leadership style, a common practice in governments worldwide. “Any president coming into power will naturally want top officers who align with his vision of leadership. You cannot dispute that,” he added, highlighting the importance of presidential autonomy in selecting key officials.

Drawing parallels with international norms, Prof. Agyeman-Duah noted that leadership changes in key positions are a global phenomenon, citing examples from the United States and other countries. “Look at what has happened in the US and other countries,” he observed, underscoring the widespread acceptance of such changes in the global community.
