In his quest to ensure accident free on the roads the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Mr. Joseph Mensah has suggested that the Authorities should come out with measures that could ban drivers who have no valid official documents from the recognized transport Unions.
He stated that it would be prudent if drivers who have refused to join transport union should be banned from plying on the roads.
The PROTOA Chairman made this known on a Kumasi based Silver FM’s morning show chaired by Nana Ampratwum.
According to the chairman such drivers are the major sources of road accidents in the country.
This is because they have no proper training, nor under no regulations from a recognized transport Unions and Associations of the country.
Mr Mensah describing these elements as ‘Waawa Drivers’, he said they over speed, overtake, resort to drink and make calls when on steer among other offences and go unpunished on the roads that eventually ended them up in killing innocent souls.
It is time we have to check these unlawful acts to put a stop to this unwarranted behavior that have been contributing to road carnage the chairman pointed out.
We should prevent drivers who do not have any union documents from the roads so as to halt besides roads accidents, also help to stop unacceptable and illegal way of loadings at the lorry terminals in the country,Mr. Mensah stressed.
