Queer Mother advocates for backyard gardening

The queenmother of Senfi_Adumasa in the Ashanti region, Nana Adeasa Dwene Afisem Antwiwaa II has admonished Ghanaian women to inculcate in themselves the practice of engaging in backyard farms so as to help get rid of eating continental dishes that contain unwholesome spices and other unhealthy vegetables.

According to her, the rate at which the Ghanaians have been consuming foreign foods and vegetables which are not of our local nutritional value health benefits is a detriment to our future food security as cultured Ghanaian people.

Nana Adeasa Dwene Afisem Antwiwaa made these remarks during the Asante Food Festival Day which coincided with the celebration of Asantehene’s 25 Silver Jubilee at Senfi-Adumasa Palace in the Amansie East Municipality of the Ashanti region.

She said coloured food bottles and tins, indomie flour foods as well as sausages without leaves and vegetables, enjoying by the teeming youth are very unfortunate and disturbing.

The queenmother of Adumasa was of the view that lack of knowledge by the people for eating continental dishes attract illiness like diabetes, low and high pressure, obesity, cancer among others.

Eating foreign foods, she said are increasing rapidly in our society, a situation she pointed out that visiting various health centres across the country are the causes of admissions of patients.

Commenting on the traditional foods, Nana Antwiwaa II mentioned local dishes like “apenprensa, nehuo, palm oil, kontomire with turkey bellies prepared meal, palm-nut and light soups as some local and known dishes that have nutritional benefits.

She encourage the youth, aged and the teenagers to consume local foods everyday for the sake of their health and well being.

On his part Nana Amankwa Kodom Ababio the Chief of Senfi- Adumasa recounted that there are many times where doctors condemn some varieties of continental foods but it seems such foods have been touch the heart of consumers negatively and cannot refrain from them.

He advised parents and guardians to create awareness for the teeming youth to patronise local foods by preparing them in their homes for their consumption.

Touching on the December 7 general elections, Nana Kodom appealed to politicians to be mindful of their words on their campaign platforms.

He advised them to deliver what if they voted into power “they can produce to make life easier for the electorates.

He said eligible voters are to vote in the December 7 and with this he advised voters to refrain from creating fear and panic at polling stations, do what is expected of them by exercising their franchise peacefully to ensure this year’s election command of peace and tranquility.
