Rev Minister Calls On IGP To Support Officer Allegedly Assaulted By Majority Leader

Reverend Prophet Anthony Kwarteng, founder and leader of Christ Power Miracles Mission Church in Accra, has publicly called on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu to support a police officer allegedly assaulted by the Member of Parliament for Efutu Constituency and Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred during a peaceful demonstration organized by the Judiciary Service of Ghana.

Expressing his disappointment with the alleged actions of Hon. Afenyo-Markin, Rev. Kwarteng stated that the legislator deserves significant consequences for reportedly assaulting a police officer who was simply performing his duty. The Reverend Minister strongly condemned the alleged actions, arguing that Hon. Afenyo-Markin, as a politician, should be acutely aware of the laws of the land and therefore held to a higher standard.

“No amount of words can convince Ghanaians to stop condemning the conduct of Afenyo Markin,” Rev. Kwarteng asserted. He further criticized the alleged disrespect shown to the police administration by the incident.

The Reverend Minister urged the IGP to take decisive action and allow the “humiliated officer” to pursue legal recourse against the MP. “The nonsense must stop,” he declared. “Is Alexander Kwamina Afenyo Markin above the law?”

Rev. Kwarteng warned that inaction in this instance could set a dangerous precedent, potentially leading to further instances of disrespect and abuse of police officers.

He emphasized that such actions constitute a “big disgrace” for the police administration and damage Ghana’s reputation on the international stage. He believes holding Hon. Afenyo-Markin accountable is necessary to deter similar behavior in the future.

Rev. Kwarteng concluded by stating that while MPs are given a mandate to represent the people’s interests in Parliament, this mandate does not extend to “unnecessary arguments or boxing.” As a “gazzeted man of God” and a citizen of Ghana, he expressed his strong belief that the IGP will not rest until “full justice is done to the police man who was beaten by the Member of Parliament.”
