The 24 hour economy and Akuffo Addo’s deception

Akufo-Addo lied to us that Akonta Mining not into galamsey, but Mahama is probing his own. This means we can trust Mahama very much – Chamber of Mines boss

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, has reignited the conversation around political will in the fight against illegal mining—commonly known as galamsey—by drawing a sharp contrast between the approaches of President Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3, Dr. Ashigbey questioned why individuals linked to illegal mining under the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are facing internal scrutiny, while those connected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) appear shielded.

“President Akufo-Addo once told me that Akonta Mining was not involved in galamsey,” he revealed.

“Yet, today we see Mahama ordering investigations into his own party members like Joseph Yamin and Yakubu Alhassan Abanga. That’s what leadership looks like.”

Dr. Ashigbey called on the government to apply the same standards across political lines.

He urged that just as members of the NDC are being held accountable, similar action should be taken against the owner of Akonta Mining, and by extension, all others involved—regardless of political affiliation.

“This is not the time for selective justice. We must treat all suspects equally, whether they belong to the NPP or NDC,” he insisted.
