We are ready to resist any potential developer over eviction order – residents.
Over 200 residents living along the Kaapare road in Tamale in the Northern region have expressed their readiness to resist anyone who would make any attempt to forcibly evict them from the area.
For now they have resolved to remain intact to defend and protect their families and properties should in case someone make a move to disturb their peace with a decision to evict them from the area.
Speaking to a section of the media in Tamale this morning, the spokesman for the residents, Mr Wanki Afa Awal underscored that the area in question is behind the Tamale Government Hospital where over the years the residents have put up building among other wooden structures they have been staying in as their permanent homes.
According to the spokesman they allegedly acquired such lands from the chiefs of the area and as such, regards their presence on the land as lawful, because for some years they have lived there with their families peacefully.
The chiefs in question now seems to be silent over the eviction order, thus creating a suspicion on whether they owned the land or the land belongs to somebody, Afa revealed.
The spokesman said just recently they were taken aback when the authorities of the hospital drawn their attention to pack off from the area since they are disposing off to some estate developers for housing projects.
The hospital Mr Wanki said claims ownership of the land and as owners, they have every right to develop it, hence their decision to evict them, stressing that the hospital has been putting pressure on them to leave.
We have nowhere to go, let alone have the means to rent accommodations, and therefore we are passionately appealing to President Akuffo Addo through the Inspector General of Police, and Regional Security Council of Tamale for their swift intervention before our forceful eviction comes to reality.
We don’t want confusion in Tamale as the December 7 general elections get near, therefore since we are not ready to leave, it is up the government to swiftly come into this case for amicable settlement before an unexpected event takes place in Tamale, the spokesman authoritatively pointed out.
