According to a report By GHone Tv On Friday Evening 31st October 2025, Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has shared his opinion on a recent government decision, saying that Ghana has found enough reasons to remove a Chief Justice from office but not enough reasons to cancel the contract between the government and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML). He expressed surprise and concern over this situation, especially because President John Mahama, when he was in opposition, had said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would not continue with the SML contract if it returned to power.
Manasseh Azure said this situation raises questions about fairness and consistency in how the government handles important national issues. He pointed out that the reasons used to justify removing a Chief Justice are serious enough to affect the judiciary, yet the same level of seriousness seems not to apply to the SML deal, which has faced public criticism for a long time.
The SML contract was signed to help the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) monitor and increase revenue collection in the oil, gas, and mining sectors. However, the deal has faced many questions from civil society and the media, including allegations of overpricing and concerns about whether the company provided real value for money. Investigations by journalists and other watchdogs have suggested that the government may not be getting its money’s worth from the contract.
Manasseh Azure reminded Ghanaians that when the NDC was in opposition, it strongly criticized the SML deal, promising that it would be reviewed or cancelled if the party came back into government. Now that the NDC is in power, he said, it is surprising to see the contract still in place despite the earlier promises.
He argued that this kind of inconsistency reduces public trust in political leaders and weakens the fight against corruption. He urged the government to take the same strong stand against questionable contracts as it does in other cases of alleged misconduct. According to him, the law and accountability should apply equally to everyone and every issue, no matter who is involved.
Manasseh’s statements have started conversations across social media, with many Ghanaians agreeing that the government must be transparent and fair in all its decisions, whether it involves powerful individuals or major business contracts.
