Controversy has erupted within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following reports of a heated confrontation where the Bono East Regional Chairman Abronye DC (Kwame Baffour) allegedly attacked the former President John Agyekum Kufuor .
Chairman Kwame Baffoe also subsequently turned his said anger on Dr. Richard Anane former MP for Kumasi Nhyiaso constituency during a private unity meeting for presidential aspirants.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the party’s rank and file came to light during a political discussion on a Kumasi based privately owned radio station, Kasseben FM on Wednsday November 5.
According to reports monitored by the correspondent Kumasi residents who tuned in to the Kasseben FM political show were reportedly taken aback by the information which detailed the extreme actions allegedly taken by Abronye DC against the former president.
The alleged incident occurred at a time of reconciliation gathering convened by party elders, statesmen and former President Kufuor to counsel the five NPP presidential aspirants who are vying for the party’s mandate in the upcoming 2028 general elections.
The high profile meeting also attracted other prominent party figures, including former NPP Members of Parliament such as Dr. Richard Anane the former MP for Nhyiaso constituency.
Sources indicate that as former President Kufuor was addressing issues of unity, peace, and hard work virtues deemed essential for party’s cohesion Abronye DC, whose real name is Kwame Baffour allegedly interjected with opposition.
He reportedly suspected Kufuor’s counsel as favoring a particular candidate to discriminate issues interrupted the former president to stop the meeting.
When Dr. Richard Anane in turn attempted to deescalate the tension and calm down Kwame Baffour, he too became a target of Abronye DC’s alleged outburst.
Described as an ugly scenario the confrontation reportedly led Dr. Anane to gently withdraw from the scene and walked out to avoid further unpalatable spectacles.
During the Kasseben FM political show panelists expressed worry about the sentiment in the NPP in recent times.
They highlighted a concerning trend of internal rift ,attacks on opponents, and insults warning that unless these divisive elements are addressed, the party’s chances of winning the next elections would be difficult.
