The session reached a fever pitch when Minority MPs directly challenged the Majority caucus to move from rhetoric to action regarding the former Minister,l who is currently residing in the United States of  America under a newly granted Green Card.

For months, the former Finance Minister has been the subject of intense public scrutiny with the ruling government repeatedly branding him as a man of interest, alleging massive financial misappropriation and embezzlement during his tenure.

These claims have been a cornerstone of the Majority’s political narrative, fueling public demands for probity, accountability and prosecution.

However the optics of the situation shifted dramatically when it was revealed that Mr. Ofori Atta has secured permanent residency in the U.S which is effectively placing him beyond the immediate reach of local authorities.

The atmosphere in the chamber turned volatile as the Minority leadership led by Hon. Afeyo Markin, launched a blistering attack on what they termed a campaign of “false financial misappropriation.”

In a charged display of defiance, the Minority demanded that if the government truly possesses evidence of embezzlement they must fulfill their long standing promise to extradite and try the former Minister.

If Ofori Atta truly embezzled government funds produce him to face the law and if not, stop the blackmail and the peddling of false charges, Hon. Markin declared to signal the opposition’s firm stance that they would no longer remain silent while their colleague’s reputation is allegedly maligned.

As NPP MPs rallied in support, the debate highlighted a growing constitutional and political crisis: is the government’s pursuit of the former Minister a genuine quest for justice or a calculated political spectacle?

Stay tuned as we follow this developing story and the potential legal fallout between the two sides of the aisle.
