According to a report by TV3 Ghana on Tuesday August 18, 2026, former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, has received a new appointment as a Short-Term Senior Research Fellow at Harvard University’s Center for International Development (CID) and the Center for African Studies (CAS).

The appointment will see Dr. Addison contribute to academic discussions on Ghana’s economic management and monetary policy. He is expected to lead four student seminar sessions in October, where he will reflect on his eight-year tenure as Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Dr. Addison retired from the Bank of Ghana in March 2025 after serving as Governor for eight years. His tenure covered several major economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, global financial shocks, rising inflation and Ghana’s debt crisis.
During his time at the central bank, Ghana undertook major reforms in the financial sector. These included the resolution of nine banks and 347 other financial institutions, as well as the implementation of a Basel III capital requirements framework.

Dr. Addison was also recognised internationally during his tenure. He was named Sub-Saharan Africa Central Bank Governor of the Year by Global Markets, following measures taken by the Bank of Ghana to strengthen the financial sector and support economic stability.
At Harvard, Dr. Addison will discuss the economic policies implemented during his tenure and their impact on Ghana’s growth. His sessions will also examine the country’s response to the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine shock.
He will further speak about Ghana’s economic crisis, the role of the central bank, the return to an IMF programme and the corrective measures introduced in 2023 and 2024.
The appointment gives Dr. Addison an opportunity to share his experience with students and contribute to wider discussions on economic policy and financial stability in Africa.
