The Neno First Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced 24-year-old Teleza Steven to 11 years in prison with hard labour after convicting her of having sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old boy.
The court heard from State Prosecutor Inspector Levison Musote that the incident occurred on August 25, when Steven allegedly took the boy’s cellphone without his consent.
The boy followed her to her residence to retrieve the phone, where the court heard that Steven forced him to have sexual intercourse with her.
The following morning, the boy reportedly experienced pain and told his mother about the incident.
He was referred to Neno District Hospital, where medical tests reportedly showed that he had contracted a sexually transmitted infection.
Steven pleaded for leniency during mitigation, saying she has two children who depend on her.
However, Musote asked the court for a stiffer sentence to serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders.
First Grade Magistrate Margret Khobili agreed with the State and sentenced Steven to 11 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Steven comes from Mbilizi Village under Senior Chief Mlauli in Neno District.
