The internal race for the National Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a contentious turn with a prominent party stalwart Mr Mark Obeng issuing a stern warning to the former Subin Member of Parliament Eugene Antwi Boakye to focus on clan politics.
Mr. Mark Obeng Chairman of the Polling Agents Group of the Atwima Nwabiagya North Constituency and Chairman of the Kumasi PZ Petty Traders Association of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly condemned the former Mp for what he describes it as a dirty campaign that he aimed at achieving political fortunes through character assassination.

The friction follows a recent remarks made by Mr. Antwi Boakye, who publicly blamed the current administration specifically pointing hands to the former General Secretary John Boadu for the party’s electoral setbacks.
Mr. Antwi Boakye has alleged that the party suffered defeat in the 2024 general elections due to lack of focus and poor administrative oversight under the previous leadership.
But in his response to these allegations, Mr. Mark Obeng dismissed the comments as intellectually dishonest and disrespectful.
He said as a matured politician and a former Member of Parliament, Eugene Antwi Boakye’s statement sounds to be contemptuous and must be thrown into a waste bin.
Mr. Obeng who was speaking to the Correspondent in an interview reiterated that if the former Mp is truly interested in discussing the reasons behind the party’s current challenges, he should first see through the mirror.
If Mr. Boakye wanted to assign blame for the NPP’s recent performance, he must start by blaming himself and his own current political approach, Obeng stated.
He emphasized that the aspirant’s reliance on personal attacks and blame game narrative are doing more harm to the party rather than his self praises rethorics.
According to Mr. Obeng, a candidate vying for such a high stake position as a National Secretary needs to focus on clear vision for the growth and development of the party and not an attempt to drag the name of the New Patriotic Party into disrepute.
The Ultimatum:
Minincing no words the Npp stalwart issued a direct ultimatum to the former Subin Mp that if he feels comfortable to choose blackmail campaign over genuine politics he (Mark Obeng) would gather Npp. forces to effectively campaign and ditch his political ambition in the party’s upcoming internal elections.
We are calling for peace and unity as we move forward and that If Mr. Boakye continues with this dirty campaign he will be met with stiff opposition, Obeng concluded.
