Set Up Fund To Help Boost The Operations Of FDA – Ranking Mp To Gov’t.

A ranking member of Parliament, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has stressed the need for the government to set up a special fund for the Food & Drugs Authority (FDA) to help the outfit to perform up to satisfaction.

According to a Kumasi based radio, Opemsuo FM’s morning news bulletin on Saturday July 8 2023, monitored by the Connectghananews.com’s Correspondent, Hon Akandoh observed that FDA is characterized by numerous challenges that have been stalling it’s activities.

He mentioned particularly financial challenges and said if government set up a fund for the organization, it can perform well to compete with its foreign counterparts.

The ranking member of Parliament assigned his reasons to the fact that market places among other shops in the country are choked with expired goods but the outfit hardly handles them because of lack of funds to engage more staff to intervene.

Again FDA also fails to carry out effective research works to ensure that many foreign products imported into the country are wholesome or not.

He also spoke about less quality products manufactured at the local level of which the Authority never reaches them for checks and prosecution when their products are found contrary to the outfit’s regulations.

Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh related that in the advanced countries research works from a sector like Food & Drugs helps manufacturers to produce quality goods that protect the health of the citizens, whilst the issue tends to be opposite in Ghana.

Akandoh noted that since effective economic development depends on good health of the citizenry, hence his call on the government to as a matter of national interest, set up a special fund for the Food & Drugs Authority (FDA) to ensure that the outfit works up to perfection to save people’s lives.
