Don’t Allow Foreigners To Destroy Our Lands And Water Bodies Through Illegal Mining – Pakyi Residents To Chiefs.
Commenting on the activities of illegal mining operations in the country, a cross section of residents at Pakyi No1, a town along the Kumasi Obuasi road in the Ashanti region, linked the minance to some chiefs who have been encouraging outsiders to destroy the country’s lands and river bodies.
The people asserted that the activities of the illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey is steadily having negative impact on the country, and call for urgent attention to reverse the situation.
A driver Kofi Oppong blamed the situation on some greedy chiefs who in their bid to become rich quick, give out their lands to foreigners mostly the Chinese people for illegal mining activities.
Those chiefs, he said use their traditional influence to encourage aliens to destroy both lands and properties for just butter and bread and leave their communities to suffer to their fate.
Adjowa Manu who claimed to be a victim in the activities of the galamssyers said her cocoa farm at Pakyi No1 was vastly destroyed by the illegal miners who refused to compensate her. I reported the case to a concerned chief among other for attention but nothing positive came out from my efforts.
She alleged that many Chinese are operating illegal mining in the country under the influence of some chiefs who treasure wealth more than the life of the people, and asked if a foreign chief would stoop too low for a Ghanaian to operate illegal mining. In their countries.

It is time the government should wake up and descends heavily on those chiefs-turned illegal miners before the destructive gold mining activities get out of hands.
