Vals Day; SSNIT officials storm market places to celebrate with traders in a grand style
Officials of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), paid surprise visit to traders in Kumasi in their quest to celebrate the Valentine’s day with them.
The market visit which was themed: “SSNIT Customers Appreciation Day Market Storm”, saw the workers paying visits to areas such as the New Kejetia (Dubai), Race Course among others.
Most of the traders who have been enrolled on the SSNIT’s newly introduced Self- Employed Enrolment Drive (SEED) program, received chocolates and other customized items from the SSNIT officials.
The officials also engaged with the traders and explained to them the benefits they stand to gain when they enrol on the SEED program.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr. Michael Addo who is the Deputy Director General of SSNIT in charge of Finance and Administration, said, the visit was among others, to celebrate the Valentine’s Day with mostly customers in those market places.
He said SSNIT was determined to establish a firm bond between them and their customers.
He said, the initiative was also aimed at giving huge opportunities to workers from the informal sector to be able to get themselves involved on the SSNIT policy.
Stressing that the scheme would go a long way to ensure the future safety for the people who may get themselves enrolled on the policy when they retire from normal work.
SEED he said, is a new initiative under the SSNIT policy which allows individuals from the informal sector to enrol and enjoy end-of-service benefits just like those working in the formal sector.
Commenting on the policy which was launched in last year, Mr. Addo said, so far over 60,000 individuals have been enrolled on the SEED policy.
He hinted that the target was to get at least 250,000 self employed individuals to enrol on the policy to help secure their future.
He underscored that management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) have reiterated its commitment towards expanding the scheme to covering as many as possible, those who work in the informal sector, particularly self-employed Ghanaians.
Some of the traders who are SSNIT customers and beneficiaries of the gifts at the occasion thanked the management for the surprise visit and gifts on the Valentine’s day.
Expressing their gratitudes about the policy, the traders who pledged their resolve to support and advocate for its growth as they entreated others to get themselves involved.
They further urged their colleague traders and other self employed individuals to enrol onto the SEED policy, a move that they believed, would secure their future in times of need or retirement from normal work.
