.Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) championing Women Rights in Ghana have praised Parliament for the passage of the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024 which has been in and out of the Legislative House since 2011.
The Organizations comprise of ABANTU, CODAC, SWIDA, COPIO, WOMEC, PEYORG, WHF, PROLINK, UADA, RUWA, GHACOE, WISE, Songtaba, Youth Harvest, SFWE, Pan Africa and Other Partners.
The 23 CSOs, which have committed themselves to implementing a gender transformative approach project in the country said the passage of the bill would also help tackle bottlenecks, inimical to the economic growth and development of Women.
Speaking in an interview with the Media in Techiman following the release of a joint statement issued by the Women Rights Organizations (WROs), Mr. Mustapha Mason Yeboah the Executive Director of COPIO and a Partner Member said the Affirmative Action Law will boost Female Education and Participation in Governance as it will protect dignity and remove activities that fight the rights of women and prevent them from achieving their full potential including political participation or taking leadership positions.
The Women Rights Organizations are therefore imploring President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to expedite action and assent the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024 into law, saying its enforcement would not only bridge the Nation’s gender divide, but but it would also empower and improve the socio-economic livelihoods of women.
