In a commendable effort to foster peace and unity in the Zongo communities, the Kumasi-based Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), Moslems Executive Foundation (MEF), organized a significant forum on October 27, 2024.

This unity and peace forum aimed to raise awareness among parents and the youth about the importance of avoiding violence as Ghana approaches its crucial December 7 elections.

Recognizing the pivotal role of the youth in shaping the future of their communities, MEF gathered high-profile speakers to address the challenges and responsibilities that come with electoral politics.

Key speakers included Sheikh Abdul Razak Bawa, the Spiritual leader of MEF, Sheikh Dr. Adam Omar Yabilah, an Educational and Entrepreneur Consultant from Saudi Arabia, and Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Mortophs, a businessman and secretary of MEF.

Their presentations resonated with a collective urgency — the need to guide the youth away from potential pitfalls of political manipulation and violence.

The speakers expressed deep concern regarding common tactics employed by certain politicians during elections.

There is a troubling trend where political figures exploit the vulnerabilities of the youth, often inciting them towards violent behaviors that contradict the core principles of Islam, a faith grounded in peace and unity.

Noting that elections should not be associated with confrontation, the speakers urged the Zongo youth to prioritize peaceful engagement and maintain the integrity of their communities.

“Do not allow yourselves to be manipulated by politicians who will abandon you once in power,” they warned, emphasizing the importance of resilience and foresight.

They encouraged young people to focus on their futures rather than getting entangled in destructive political schemes.

Additionally, the speakers called for a collective stand against political violence, urging the youth to report any politicians who attempted to enlist them in acts of violence or intimidation.

Beyond addressing the youth, the forum also aimed to engage parents within the Zongo communities. The speakers admonished parents to take an active role in monitoring the activities of their children and to instill values of peace and responsibility during this politically charged season.

It was a heartfelt plea for families to unite in shielding the youth from the allure of political chaos.

The Moslems Executive Foundation’s commitment extends beyond this forum, with plans to propagate messages of peace and unity across various Zongo communities in Kumasi.

The next target for their outreach efforts will be Kumasi Aboabo, signaling a determination to reach as many families as possible with the vital message of non-violence and solidarity.
