In a notable turn of events, a faction of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Obuasi Wawase branch have publicly declared their intention to rally behind the current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama.
This move, spearheaded by Mr. Kwadwo Boakye, signals a shift in focus from partisan politics towards national development.
The group’s decision, made at a recent meeting, emphasizes unity and the importance of supporting the government of the day, regardless of political affiliation. They articulated that in a democratic system, leadership changes are inevitable, and it’s the duty of every citizen to back the current government in tackling national challenges.
According to Mr. Boakye, the group acknowledged that former President Akuffo-Addo contributed to the nation’s development. However, they also highlighted the existence of numerous uncompleted projects left behind. The group believes it is now the responsibility of the Mahama administration to see these projects through to completion. “We need to support him, it is the duty of the current government to complete such projects and so we are in support of the agenda,”
Mr. Boakye is quoted as saying.
The group urged all NPP supporters to unite behind the national agenda of completing these projects and avoid divisive actions that hinder national progress. They stressed that national development benefits all citizens, irrespective of their political leanings, and that hatred and partisan animosity are ultimately detrimental to the country as a whole.
In a call for peaceful co-existence, the Obuasi NPP supporters also advised members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to abstain from provocative and destructive behavior that fuels societal tensions. The group emphasized that Ghana is a shared heritage, and the mentality that “our government” has now come into power should be discarded to ensure harmony.
This unexpected display of solidarity from Obuasi NPP members presents a potential model for cross-partisan cooperation in the pursuit of national development.
It remains to be seen whether this call for unity will be embraced by other political factions, but it offers a hopeful sign that a focus on national progress can, at times, transcend the traditional political divides.
