The Project Coordinator for. the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies (GAMA/GKMA) Ing George Asiedu has disclosed that the residents within the selected Assemblies of its household toilet projects would be prosecuted when they violate the rules and regulations that govern the provisions of the facilities.
Speaking to a section of the media in an interview at a three days workshop for media practitioners at the Aqua Safari Resort at Ada in the Greater Accra Region on Friday December 9 2022, Ing Asiedu expressed regret that government has though provided avenue that seek to provide accessible toilet facilities for Ghanaians, people tend to close their eyes on the opportunity.
Ing George Asiedu mentioned bio digester toilet technology which the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources have been carrying out through the World Bank funding.
The project he said have benefited many Ghanaian residents within the Greater Accra and Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies respectively since its introduction.
The Bio digester toilet facilities among others he said, are the fastest growing toilet options in the Ghanaian community, that GAMA/GKMA have been providing for Ghanaians.
He reiterated that its usage have been given a boost by the World Bank-funded GAMA Sanitation and Water Project (2014-2020) which seeks to provide improved sanitation to low-income urban areas.
Per the government 80 percentage subsidy on the acquisition of the affordable household toilet facilities, Ing Asiedu charged Ghanaians especially house owners who do not have toilets in their homes to sieze the opportunity to apply for the facility.
George Asiedu explained that government is providing a subsidy of over 80 percent and therefore if one fails to take advantage of the facilities and is caught, the law would take its own course without any favor.
Our outfit was not ready to prosecute earlier because arrangements were not intact to do so.
But now we are ready to deal with the environmental offenders because our arrangements are set, Ing Asiedu told the.media.
He stressed the good news in the toilet facilities are that irrespective of the economic situation in the country, government is not increasing the cost of accessing toilet in homes.
As a result of the importance placed on it, he concluded.
