Speaking in an interview on Net2 TV on March 22, 2026, Agyapong addressed rumours that had been circulating within political circles, suggesting that internal tensions following the contest could lead to divisions. He rejected those claims in strong terms, making it clear that he has no intention of leaving the party he has long supported.

“Over my dead body will I leave the NPP to form another party,” he stated emphatically, underscoring his commitment to the party’s unity and future.

Agyapong noted that disagreements and competition are natural aspects of democratic political systems, particularly during leadership contests. He emphasized that losing an internal election should not be interpreted as a sign of disloyalty or a reason to abandon the party. Instead, he called for reconciliation and collective effort toward shared political goals.

According to him, his defeat in the flagbearer race does not diminish his dedication to the NPP. He expressed his willingness to continue contributing to the party’s growth, including supporting future campaigns and strengthening grassroots structures across the country.

He also urged party members and supporters to avoid actions that could create unnecessary divisions. Stressing the importance of unity, Agyapong said political success depends on teamwork, discipline, and a shared commitment to the party’s ideals.

Political analysts say his remarks are likely to calm concerns among supporters who feared a possible split within the party. They note that maintaining cohesion after competitive primaries is essential for preserving electoral strength and organizational stability.

The NPP flagbearer contest attracted significant national attention, with several prominent figures vying for leadership. Although Agyapong did not emerge as the winner, his performance demonstrated considerable support within sections of the party base.

Observers believe his public reaffirmation of loyalty sends a strong signal that he intends to work within the party’s framework rather than challenge it from outside. His stance is seen as a move to reinforce unity at a time when internal cohesion remains crucial.

As the political landscape evolves ahead of future elections, Agyapong’s declaration may help ease tensions and encourage reconciliation within the party. Analysts note that how party leaders manage post-contest relationships will ultimately determine the strength and unity of the NPP going forward.
