Residents of Wassa Kyeikrom in the Amenfi. Central district of the Western region are reeling from a deeply disturbing incident that unfolded on May 7th as 26 year old man identified as Peter Okyer is alleged to have mutilated himself after which he attacked his landlord.
The motive behind this shocking act remains mystery leaving the community grappling for answers.
Peter Okyer a native of Nyinahene in the Ashanti Region had relocated to Wassa Kyeikrom to work as a miner.
He was reportedly lodging with his landlor Mr. Yaw Anafi and the two had lived together peacefully until the fateful day when the incident. occured.
According to Mr. Anaafi, he was resting on the fateful day when Okyere in what witnesses described as a state of agitated distress, suddenly rushed at him.
Okyere exhibited erratic behavior and attempted to assault his landlord who managed to escape the attack.
The harrowing events took a turn for the worse when Peter. Okyere subsequently inflicted severe self harm reportedly cutting off his own penis and testicle..
The extreme pain and trauma caused by these actions led Okyere to become nearly unconscious.
Following the incident Okyere’s fellow galamsey operators alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and found him in a critical state.
He was quickly rushed to the Green Shield Hospital at Sefwi Bekwai for medical attention.
Police have confirmed the case and have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dual acts of violence.
The Sefwi Bekwai Police Command is reportedly collaborating with the hospital authorities to support Okyere with his medical bills and feeding during his recovery.
The community of Wassa Kyeikrom remains stunned by the brutality of the event and the apparent self destructive actions of Peter Okyere.
The question of what could have driven the young miner to such desperate and violent measures continues to resonate with no clear explanation having emerged so far.
