Top police official in police custody for allegedly robbing Indian nationals of their Ghc 700,000, $56,450, phones among other properties.

Inspector Abednego Bortieh of the Nima Police Station in Accra is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations for leading a robbery of some Indian nationals at Osu.

The policeman who is an alleged ring leader and his accomplices currently on the run, reportedly broke into the home of the complainants and accused them of engaging in illegal business.

In the process, two of the suspects who were in police uniform threatened the victims and forcibly collected their Ghc 700,000, $56,450 USD, one iPhone 12pro max,  two IPhone 11, one IPhone 7, a Samsung phone, one Hp laptop, a  Dell laptop and four travelling passports from their room and drove away in a Nissan Sentra saloon.

According to a police situational report sighted by the news team, the suspects were tracked and Inspector Abednego Bortieh of Nima Police Station was arrested in connection of the robbery.

During interrogation, he admitted the offence and mentioned his civilian accomplices as Francis Omari, an ICT tutor at IPMC, Helena Tetteh and one other.

When the Inspector’s room was searched Ghc185, 105 and $ 22,501 was retrieved.

He is currently in custody assisting the Police to apprehend his accomplices said to be on the run.
