A new report by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that Haruna Iddrisu is currently leading in the race for the next leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2028 elections.
The data shared by the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics on Tuesday, 1st July, 2025, Mr. Mussa Dankwah, shows that many NDC voters are looking for younger leaders to take charge of the party after President John Dramani Mahama’s second term.
According to the report, 27% of NDC voters prefer Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, to lead the party. He is followed closely by the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, also known as “General Mosquito”, who had 26%.
Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson came third with 22%, while Chief of Staff Julius Debrah received 11%. Other key names included Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (8%), Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings (4%), and others making up the remaining 3%.
Mr. Dankwah explained that the poll results show a growing interest among NDC supporters in younger leaders who can bring fresh energy and ideas to the party. He noted that two-thirds of voters who supported President Mahama in the last election say they want the next NDC leader to be someone younger.
This means that while experienced figures like General Mosquito are still popular, new-generation politicians like Haruna Iddrisu are gaining ground.
Political observers believe that this poll could shape the internal NDC discussions as the party plans for life after Mahama. The race is expected to heat up in the coming years as more names are likely to join the contest.
