Bear with us to render you quality service – Union Vice chairman to public over transport fare increases.

The Vice Chairman of the Kumasi Sofoline Super branch of the Ghana Private Road & Transport Union, (GPRTU) Mr Julius Caesar Amoah has stressed the need for Ghanaians to bear with the transport operators over the recent increase in transport fares to enable drivers render proper service to them.

Speaking to the correspondent in an exclusive telephone interview, Mr Amoah observed that the fares increase was not in the best interest of the transport Unions across the country but the situation has compelled them to do so.

He said the transport owners having Ghanaians at heart moderately increased the fares at the range of 20 percent in order not to frustrate public businesses.

Mr Amoah cited the current price hike in fuel, spare parts, maintenance cost among others and insisted that without little adjustment in the transport fares ,the transport industry would collapsed to the disadvantage of Ghanaians, and hoped that the public would bear with them.

As transporters we are ready to serve up your satisfaction but what we need from you is your patient and cooperation, the Vice chairman asserted.

Having pleaded for public cooperation, Mr Amoah charged drivers to fully comply with the new fares and make sure that passengers are carried from their loading points to their final destinations to enhance the trust and confidence that the public have in the drivers.

He advised against deceptive driving and illegal charges where drivers resort to charge passengers on ‘short, short’ basis before conveying them to their final destinations.

Concluding that such practices constitute to crime that goes with punishment and it will be the drivers interest to refrain from the act for the sake of their own peace.
