Speaking at Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality as part of his thank you tour in the Ashanti Region, Nketia observed that the failure of the successive governments to continue the projects initiated by their predecessors is a significant drain on the nation’s resources and a direct impediment to progress.

He said instead of a new governments to take a decisive decision to complete the projects left by the previous administration, Assiedu Nketia stated, politicians in the current administrations refuse to continue those projects left.

.They abandon the projects of the previous administrations with impunity and start undertaking new projects to the disadvantage of the country.

The NDC Chairman reiterated the illegality and economic folly of such practices and highlighted the billions of cedis that were drawn from the national coffers on the abandoned projects.

He posed a poignant question to the gathering: How can the country grow if politicians continue to abandon projects of the previous administrations.

Can’t we come to the understanding that the poverty of Ghana would intensify if we decide to borrow for new projects whilst we prefer to abandon the previous ones that serve as state properties.

Nketia emphasized that it is against this backdrop of the wasteful project abandonment that President John Dramani Mahama has made it compulsory for the completion of all inherited projects as a top priority amidst initiatiing new ones to benefit all Ghanaians.

He said president John Dramani Mahama’s commitment is not a mere rhetoric but a practical directive.

For this reason Nketia explained that government has directed all the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MCEs/DCEs) to open ‘Legacy Accounts.’

These accounts are designed to help supplement Assemblies funds to enhance the, realization of all government projects across the country.

The NDC Chairman’s pronouncements was met with support from the local officials.

  • The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, Hon. Wisdom Osei
cited a number of projects he has initiated since his tenure and reaffirmed his commitment to President Mahama’s reset agenda, pledging to spread development projects across the municipality to benefit the residents.
