E/R: OSUBENG FARMERS SEND STRONG WARNING TO CHIEF AND MCE TO FOIL , AGENDA ON GALAMSEY IF THEY HAVE.

Cocoa farmers at Kwahu Osubeng in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern region have sent a strong warning to the chief of the town and the Municipal Chief Executive not to make any attempt to accept or bring any illegal mining to the area, reports Apelete Kofi – Micheal our Eastern Regional Chief correspondent.

Farmers who normally grow cocoa at Kwahu Osubeng are behind this warning message to the chief of Kwahu Osubeng, Nana Agyei Sasu Debrah and the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu South ,Emmanuel Atta Ofori Senior.

According to the farmers, they have heard from rumours that the aforementioned names have allegedly met and planned for illegal mining in the area.

And consequently they are appealing to the chief and the MCE to foil their intentions if the allegations are true..

We will not accept any illegal mining in our community, they insisted and added that a fierce resistance will take place if anyone makes an attempt to impose illegal mining here to destroy our cocoa farms.

When the chief of the town ,Nana Agyei Sasu Debrah was reached for his side version of the story, he flatly denied the allegations.

He told the correspondent that the accusations from the farmers are false because he is a farmer himself and besides, no body has come to him to discuss about any mining activities in the area, let alone have any agenda to allow illegal mining activities in the area.

On his part Hon Emmanuel Atta Ofori Senior, MCE for Kwahu South Municipal also dismissed the allegations as ill-concieved agenda hatched by certain elements to create confusions in the area.

The MCE assured the farmers to remain calm since his administration is not ready to entertain galamsey activities in the area to destroy people’s properties.

Anyone who will get tip off about suspicious characters who are planning to engage in the illegal gold mining within my jurisdiction should channel a report for action, the MCE reassured.
