In a scathing indictment of the Senior High School (SHS) feeding program, the Founder and Leader of the Christ Power Miracle Mission Church in Accra Dome Kwabena, Very Reverend Anthony Kwarteng, has issued an urgent call to the government to immediately disassociate headmasters and bursars from handling the program’s expenditure.
Rev. Kwarteng vehemently argues that these senior school officials are the worst offenders and directly responsible for the chronic underfeeding of students and the proliferation of sicknesses within school campuses.
Speaking to the correspondent in an exclusive interview, the Minister of God made serious allegations by claiming that headmasters and bursars in SHS institutions collude to underestimate the food costs submitted by matrons.
This deliberate undervaluation, he alleged allows them to then pocket major rest of the money, diverting crucial funds meant for student nutrition.
The unfortunate consequence, according to Rev. Kwarteng, is that school matrons caught between job scarcity or threats of being transferred are compelled to remain silent.
They are then forced to make do with the meager approved feeding expenses, leading them to procure and serve malnutritious meals that inevitably contribute to student illness.
“I have evidence to prove my case,” asserted Very Rev. Anthony Kwarteng who while identified himself as a gazzeted pastor, also acknowledged his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He clarified that his motivation stems from a desire to eradicate such deep-rooted corruption within the Ghana Education Service.
He further contended that some suspicious crooked people have been taking over the Ghana Education Service since the regime of Akuffo Addo, suggesting a systemic issue.
To salvage the SHS feeding program from what he described as impending “oblivion,” the clergyman passionately advocated for a radical shift in responsibility.
He stressed that the entire feeding cost expenditure of SHS should be entrusted solely to the care of the matrons.
Matrons are experts in food management and understand the exact number of students they feed,” Rev. Kwarteng concluded, emphasizing their competence and integrity as the antidote to the alleged financial malpractices of headmasters and bursars.
- His plea underscores a growing concern over the efficacy and transparency of a program vital to the well-being of Ghana’s future generation.
